Podcast 004 – The Growth of Langley – Planning For The Future

The Township of Langley’s population is growing, and it looks like it’s not going to stop anytime soon. Blair Whitmarsh, a candidate for the township council, understands the inevitability of growth. One of his concerns as a citizen and candidate is that council and the people of Langley need to great plan to manage the on-coming population increase in the township. Pretending it’s not happening is not a choice. Blair strongly believes the local government needs to commit itself to creating a solid strategy that will preserve the township’s quality of life.

Sustainable development

In this podcast, Blair shares his concerns about the future of the Township of Langley and its need to develop and update plans for adapting to its growth. Whether you’re in Fort Langley, Murrayville, Brookswood, Walnut Grove or any other community of neighbourhood, your community needs an up-to-date plan. As the township’s populations grows, public services, water and sewerage, transportation, and many other necessary things that contribute to life we enjoy need to grow as well.

Planning as a community effort

Blair is committed to working with the council and with the people of the Township of Langley to develop a smart plan for a sustainable future. Listen as Blair talks about the basic ingredients to creating such a great plan: good leadership, and public hearings with community input and ideas. He hopes to join with the other council members to provide the leadership that will help the community design a future that Langley can be proud of. Blair Whitmarsh arrived in Langley as a first year student at Trinity Western University some 30 years ago and fell in love with the township. He has lived with his wife, Lorraine, and three daughters, Karina, Jolayne, and Tana, who have also been active in the community for most of the time since. Since earning a PhD in sports psychology, Blair has had a distinguished career as a professor at Trinity since 1996 and has been the Dean of the School of Human Kinetics and Athletics since 2005. He helped in the design and development of the Langley Events Centre. Blair is a professional member of the Canadian Sports Psychology Association and has consulted with athletes and teams for more than 20 years. He is currently completing a MBA and will be awarded the degree in August 2014.
